Catch & Release Best Practices
Best Practice
▾
Use barbless hooks — required in C&R sections, recommended everywhere
Keep fish in water as much as possible — no extended air exposure
Wet your hands before handling — dry hands remove protective slime layer
Revive fish before release — hold facing upstream until it swims away strongly
If water temp exceeds 68°F, consider stopping fishing — stress mortality increases sharply
